Happy Thursday everyone!

As many of you know, tomorrow is Single’s Awareness Day… oh wait, I mean Valentine’s Day. Now, maybe it’s because I’ve been relationshipless for the past three Valentine’s Days, but I really am not a fan of this holiday. I’ve never grasped the concept of why we need a single day to tell someone(s) how much we love them or how much they mean to us. Shouldn’t everyday be the day to tell people these things?

I am unimpressed with your declaration of love only one day a year.
Unimpressed.

Anyway, I digress.

For me this year, Valentine’s Day is about taking a step back and recognizing the love I  have in my life – my love for myself, my love for my family and friends, and my love for life. So here are three ways to enjoy your Valentine’s Day as a solo act.

1) Treat yourself
I cannot speak for others, but sometimes I get so caught up with work or trying to smash the patriarchy that I forget to take care of myself. This Valentine’s Day, treat yourself. Sleep for nine hours. Get a massage. Make a nice dinner. Go to a yoga class. Do something for you that you have been putting off because you are too busy. You deserve it!

2) Tell the people in your life that they matter
While I think that you should always be open about your feels for people, be those feelings being romanic or platonic, Valentine’s Day does provide the opportunity to express your emotions openly. Maybe you should call your parents or that friend from college you haven’t talked to in a while. Tell them you love them, or like them, or just say hi.

3) Spend time with other people who are also single
No, you are not the only one who is not currently in a relationship in this moment. While sometimes it can feel like that when most of your close friends are coupled-up, it’s not true. So find some solo comrades to hang out with this Vday. Have a singles party. Be reckless. Being unattached can be incredibly liberating and fun. Go make a mess!

Now, dear readers, I love you all. I hope you all go out and celebrate where you are in life – whether you are currently in a relationship or single – because where you are is exactly where you are supposed to be.

Happy early Valentine’s Day! Hugs and Kisses.
